Athlete Announcement

100 days left to the Diamond League! Battle for MVP title in store.

In exactly one hundred days, the Silesian Stadium will become the epicentre of the athletics world. The organisers of the Polish Diamond League meeting are revealing more names of confirmed participants: the Polish kings of the hammer throw and the champions of the high jump. – Tickets for all premium sectors are available now. This is the last moment to reserve the best seats – Piotr Małachowski said.

The 2025 Diamond League season started out with a bang. In Xiamen, Karsten Warholm set a world record in the 300 metres hurdles, which promises fantastic results once the Norwegian gets going over the longer distance. There are other athletes with similar aspirations. Although the summer season is just getting started, Armand Duplantis cleared 6.11 in the pole vault at the second stop on the prestigious circuit. He attacked the world record three times, but in early May, the bar fell each time.

In one hundred days, in the Silesian Stadium, he will be even stronger – that is the prediction coming from Piotr Małachowski, sports director of the Polish Diamond League meeting.

The sporting feast in the Silesian Stadium will take place in exactly one hudred days.

Tamberi asked: How high do I need to go to be the MVP? Stopped by Duplantis

On this day, the organisers of the best one-day athletics meeting ever (that was the 2024 edition according to the World Athletics ranking system) are announcing more names which will make an appearance on August 16th. It is now known that the men’s high jump competition will feature the legendary duo of Gianmarco Tamberi and Mutaz Essa Barshim. At that stage of the season, the Italian and the Qatari should have earned their tickets to the World Championships in Tokyo. Mid-August will be the time for putting finishing touches on their form and for making an impression on their opponents with their results before the year’s big event.

The story of these two from the Tokyo Olympics, with them sharing the gold, is known to everyone. But some time has passed since then and now the jumpers are at a point where they have something to prove to their rivals. The world is not falling asleep. Barshim (whose personal best is 2.43, equal second for second on the all-time list) took the bronze in Paris, but both he and Tamberi (PB 2.39) are being pushed ever harder by the young generation. Mutaz is unbeaten here and he is the Memorial’s record holder. Tamberi won here last year. They are our guests of homour – Małachowski said, adding that Tamberi’s appearance in Silesia has another context: the MVP award introduced by the Memorial’s organisers.

Tamberi, whose enthusiasm and ability to generate a show in the stands have become legendary, asked the question himself last year:

What result is necessary to win it?

If Duplantis sets a world record you will have to do the same. So it will be 2.46 – was the answer he received at the press conference.

As Mondo did indeed clear a historic 6.26 and Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a world record in the 3000 metres, the Italian – already expecting that could happen – had his work cut out for him. Now, a year later, he is talking about revenge. Ingebrigtsen, with four golds won this winter, will be competing in the 1500 metres this time, as well as Duplantis and many other guests of this edition of the „Kama” may have similar ambitions. Apart from prize money, prestige is also on the line, as athletes themselves have stated.

All premium seats available. The last moment

Małachowski points out that those wishing to see Duplantis, Tamberi, Barshim and other field event specialists up close should hurry up if they wish to select their seats.

As of now, all premium sectors are available for purchase to the public. This is the last chance to select those with the best views.

The seats with the best view on the jumping and throwing competitions are selling very fast. This does not surprise us. We are dreaming of selling out the Silesian stadium. That is why we put so much effort into negotiating with the stars – said the sports director.

Tickets for the meeting on August 16th are available on the eBilet.pl website.

I will tell you the finish line seats give good views not just on the finishes of Natalia Bukowiecka and Ewa Swoboda, who will be there on the day. They are also great for watching the hammer throw – Paweł Fajdek, five-time world champion in the event, said with a wink. This year’s duel against the Olympic champion Wojciech Nowicki will be the 36-year old’s 15th consecutive appearance at the Skolimowska Memorial. He has competed in every edition since 2011. – This is the most important meeting on my calendar. Competing for Kama, in front of the Polish crowd in the Diamond League is a great honour and privilege – Fajdek stated.

His rivalry against Wojciech Nowicki is always hot. They are two different characters, both charismatic, with different records. The duo is an export package: one has an Olympic gold and no world titles, with the other it is the other way around. This time they will be competing shortly before the trip to Tokyo and after the 2024 season both have something to prove. The Silesian Stadium is the perfect spot to do just that – commented Robert Skolimowski, the father of the prematurely deceased patron of the meeting.

Paweł Fajdek’s nine wins at the Memorial are a record for the meeting. Nowicki has won twice so far, most recently in 2023.

The list of stars getting longer. The goal: Skolimowska is to be the talk of the world again

Fajdek and Nowicki are joining the list of Polish stars who have confirmed their appearance on August 16th. Bukowiecka (nee Kaczmarek) is yet to start the 2025 season, but the appetite whetted by her Olympic medal and national record is great, especially her own. That is true especially after the indoor season, which an injury cut short for her. Also highly motivated to prove her class is Ewa Swoboda – fourth in both the World and European Indoor Championships.

I have rested, I learned my lessons. But there is no need to persuade anyone that in Silesia, in my home region, I will do my best. This is the date I underlined with a red marker in my calendar – Ewa promised.

It was at the „Kama” that Swoboda broke 11 seconds for the first time, setting her current personal best of 10.94.

The long list of Polish stars includes Jakub Szymański. We already know the European indoor champion from Apeldoorn will face the great Grant Holloway, unbeaten in his indoor career.

The list will be getting longer. The startlists are filling up, negotiations with many stars are nearing conclusion. We have one goal: just like last year, with two world records, we want the entire world to talk about Kamila’s Memorial – Małachowski said.

Tickets for the 2025 Diamond League in Silesia are available on the eBilet.pl website.
