The 2026 Silesia Diamond League has made athletics history. No meeting in Europe has ever matched that sporting quality. And this year none in the world has. – These are not just feelings, it is hard numbers – said the happy sports director of the meeting Piotr Małachowski. He is already inviting everyone to the next edition.
The spectacle in the Superauto,pl Silesian Stadium on Sunday was viewed by 38,073 spectators. Throughout the four-hour long meeting, the crowd carried Mykolas Alekna to a spectacular Diamond League record in the discus throw (72.58) and Alison dos Santos to 46.43 in the 400 metre hurdles, the sixth fastest performance of all time. That was one of two world leading performances set, with the other being Tsige Duguma’5 3:55.06 in the 1500 metres, the race in which Klaudia Kazimierska smashed the national record. She stated afterwards she did not run the best race from the tactical point of view, which demonstrates her great ambitions.
Polish soil with lesser gravity. Historic edition of the Diamond League
– Two other national records were set, but for countries other than Poland. What is more important, out of 26 events, six saw new meeting records and in two others the records were equalled. With the marks already at a very high level, it is evidence of the quality of what we saw last weekend in the Silesian Stadium – stated Marek Plawgo, the meeting’s communications director and a member of the „relay of legends”, which raced on Sunday against the cyclist Dawid Godziek.
The meeting records are worth listing in full:
100m men – Oblique Seville: 9.83
400m men – Busang Collen Kebinatshipi: 43.59
3000m steeplechase men – Gemechu Godana: 8:02.74
Discus men – Mykolas Alekna: 72,58
Long jump women – Agate de Sousa and Alyssa Jones: 6,98
Shot put women – Chase Jackson: 20,92
High jump women – Yaroslava Mahuchikh: 2,00
Of course the level in major championships varies. But our table of records consists almost exclusively of marks that guarantee medals. Even Olympic ones – Piotr Małachowski stated excitedly.

It was in the Silesian Stadium that nine men broke 10 seconds in the 100 metres for the first time in history. It was also here that the fans witnessed the pole vault competition with three men clearing at least 6 metres. The first time it ever happened was also at the „Kama” and the only other occasion was in Toruń in March, during the World Indoor Championships. The Polish soil evidently has a lower level of gravity.

It is no wonder that after the meeting was over on Sunday, the head of the organising committee Marcin Rosengarten could not find the adequate words of praise while addressing the team. The video of the moment has gone viral in the social media, with top names from the world of athletics leaving words of congratulations in the comments.
– That is the most important thing for us: the satisfaction of the participants. Having nearly 300 guests on the startlists is not an easy task. But ever since we started commemorating Kamila, this aspect has been our top priority – Rosengarten stated.
Best meeting in European history. And the third-best ever!
The enthusiasm following this year’s Diamond League is well grounded in the figures. The statistician Tomasz „Nedops” Spodenkiewicz calculated on Sunday how this edition fared compared to previous ones. The conclusion is a delightful one, as it turned out to be the best quality ever in Silesia.
– The 2026 Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial scored 97,574 points on the World Athletics table. This shows the quality of results and their depth. It is an unquestionable fact that no other competition in the world this year was better. Lausanne, London, Monaco, Paris etc. were left behind. Less obviously, but perhaps more importantly, no meeting in Europe in the history of the sport has been better – Spodenkiewicz stated. He added that the previous record, set in Zurich in 2025, was bettered by over 300 points. In global terms, only two editions of the famed Eugene Diamond League have ever scored higher.
– Those present in the stands on Sunday were witnesses to athletics history being made. This is no exaggeration, it is hard statistics – the happy Plawgo said.
Fans and athletes find out the date for 2027. „They kept asking”
– Could I also have my own tribune at your meeting? I want to keep coming back here – declared the Olympic and world champion in the hammer throw Ethan Katzberg.
This, as well as the repeated questions about the date of next year’s edition of the meeting coming from the athletes clearly shows the world elite feels good in Poland. Karsten Warholm, even if he received his cheesecake later then Armand Duplantis did, as he stated at the press conference, feels the same way, too. Even though he lost out to the Swede on the MVP ring given for the highest point score of the day.
– Silesia has a special place in my heart – said Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, the queen of the sprint at last year’s World Championships and the winner of the 100 metres on Sunday.
The organisers extended a helping hand to the champions and the thousands of athletics fans planning the next visit. In the stadium, the warmup zone and the official calendars of the Diamond League, the date of next year’s Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial has now been announced. Once again a two-day format, the event will take place on August 14th and 15th, 2027.
– Please be on the alert, as we will start ticket sales soon. The priority will be given to the subscribers of our newsletter. You may still join that group – Plawgo said.
